Waynard Scheller and Rainbow Full of Sound (RFoS) have become one of the East Coast’s premier Grateful Dead tribute bands, refining their craft over 300 shows. They’re recreating the Dead’s Europe ‘72 tour, performing each show’s original setlist on its 50th anniversary.
RFoS started in 2012 as a one-time tribute to the Dead’s 1980 Radio City run but evolved into a rotating collective led by Waynard. His deep musical roots trace back to a ragtime-playing grandfather, guitar-strumming babysitters, and a mother who introduced him to classics. By age 10, he was playing guitar, but Terrapin Station inspired him to switch to keyboards. He joined Dead-oriented bands like Changing Planes and Jam Stampede, collaborating with John Kadlecik, Zach Nugent, and Kenny Brooks.
Waynard’s talent led to performances with Bob Weir at a Jerry Garcia Foundation event, plus connections with Hot Tuna’s Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady, and the Lesh Family Band. His journey through the Dead’s musical universe continues, with RFoS bringing fans an authentic, time-traveling experience.
